ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene): an amorphous polymer belonging to the family of styrene resins. This can be compared to a SAN shockproof (the Butadiene is the elastomeric phase of the polymer). It generally has an opaque color tending to ivory but special formulations allow to obtain a transparent ABS. The new technologies and the numerous developments allow to have a high range of ABS with different characteristics depending on the use: from ABS with high fluidity with high resistance to impact, ABS with high technical characteristics (eg: ABS for helmets) up to ABS thermo resistant. ABS can also be compounded with the addition of modifiers (glass fibers, self-extinguishing additives) which improve some technical features in order to obtain products more suitable to certain applications and specifications.
